Summer days

After coming home from Utah that left us with only 4 more weeks of summer. Just a short amount of time left to enjoy our time without morning schedules and afternoon sports. Not to say that I will complain when school is back in because the boys are definitely ready to have a break from each other. The Sunday after we got back Nathan was scheduled for a sleep study. We have been seeing an ENT at Stanford with him since he was 3 1/2. He had tubes put in and his adenoids out at around 3 and we have been dealing with issues since. He ears have a problem building up with fluid any time he is sick and then not draining. Which is part of the reason he originally had tubes placed. The fluid build up was affecting his hearing and after a couple years with the tubes in they were starting to cause more problems then helping. He developed a lot of scar tissue on his ear drums and so we ended up having them removed. After about a year or two of healing and traveling to Stanford every 3 months he finally seemed to be getting back to normal. His hearing test were coming back normal but still every time we saw the ENT he seemed to have some fluid behind his ear drums. Really by 9 most kids have out grown these issues but his seem persistent. One thing is that every year the doctor would mention how large his tonsils were but since he wasn't snoring she wasn't to concerned about them. About 5 months ago we went in for his annual hearing screen and ear exam and his hearing was once again slightly impaired from fluid build up. So we had to go back 3 months later to make sure they drained and everything was back to normal. And thankfully it was but during his recheck exam she noticed that he sounded really nasally when he talked so she looked at his tonsils. And the were massive. They actually filled up his entire throat. While I got the impression that she would like to remove them(I was in agreement) she needed to follow some procedures to see if the large tonsils were affecting his health. Since he does snore now she scheduled a sleep test to see if they are impairing his ability to sleep at night. Praying that we get some answers that allow us to move on to do what ever is necessary to get him over his ear problems.

All strapped up and ready for bed. I don't know how he slept with all those wires. But it took him less then 10 minutes to fall asleep and then he slept like a rock, even when the tech would come in and readjust the lines. I on the other hand slept terribly.

Later that week we met up with cousins for a day at the Gilroy aquatic center. The boys were thrilled to have another chance to swim.

We then spent Thursday through Saturday at the cabin. Friday we had plans to go boating at the lake but after about 10 mins while we were searching for a place to beach, the prop hit some shallow ground and got bent making it impossible to use the boat. So we found a place to anchor, let the kids swim, ate lunch and then headed back to the cabin for pizza. Saturday We joined Randalynn's family at Pinecrest for some more fun swimming. Ate lunch then made our way home. I have absolutely no pictures to document the fun. Sometimes it is just better to enjoy the moments rather then worrying about capturing everything on film.

Now to take advantage of the rest of our days off and try not to let the kids get too stir crazy.
