Rescue Bots

Saturday Nathan celebrated his birthday with some friends. I can't believe that he will be turning 5 on Tuesday. This year he requested a Rescue Bots party. He is pretty obsessed with anything Transformers right now. I couldn't find any real rescue bot decorations, so I ended up using just the regular Transformer stuff. But he still loved it anyway.

The party started off with a bounce house. My dad was able to borrow this  really cool one from a work friend. It was the perfect bounce house for a group of  4-5yr olds.

After a little fun in the bounce house we played some rescue bot games:

First was pin the power source on Bumble Bee

Then they all got Optimus Prime mask and we had some games training to be Rescue Bots

Need for Speed: Relay race around cone and back.

 Strength: Tug O war

Heatwave's water race: The goal was to transfer water from one bucket to another with just a sponge.

Then we played with the giant volleyball and parachute.

Our final activity was a transformer Pinata. Nathan really wanted a pinata this year and I was lucky enough to find this one. It was perfect.

Present time, his friends sure did spoil him.

Finally it was time for cake. My mom had a friend from church make a cake for him this year. She is super talented and the cake was amazing. All I did was told her the theme and colors I wanted and she just ran with her own idea.

She really did her research: the lines and circles above Prime is Transformer writing for Optimus Prime and the other one in yellow is the lettering for Bumblebee.

And the big surprise was that the cake was a Pinata cake, so once it was cut into candy came poring out.

Brady napped through the whole party, but got up just in time to enjoy the bounce house with Papa before we took it down.

Heatwave

Last week was hot. I am afraid this summer may be pretty miserable if it is only May and we have already hit 100 degrees. Luckily it cooled of Saturday and hopefully the temps will stay around 75 for a while. Thursday we took advantage of the hot weather and spent the day at the beach with some friends. We had a great time and even got to see some dolphins swimming and a large group of sea lions playing and leaping  nearby. (sorry no pictures, I didn't have my camera out at the time)

After the beach, Dave and I joined his parents at the Giants game. It was much cooler in San Francisco and a fun game to watch.

Glasses

So a couple weeks ago I took Nathan in to see the eye doctor just for an annual check up. I took him for the first time last year because I had read some where that kids should see an eye doctor between 3 and 4. Last year we discovered that he had an astigmatism in both eyes which was making any small print blurry. His vision was 20/40 so it wasn't really affecting his ability to see unless the object was far away. His doctor at the time said that he would eventually need glasses but that we didn't have to get them yet because he wasn't reading. He thought that we could wait until he was in a grade level where they started reading smaller print. This year I expected to hear the same but I could tell during the exam that Nathan was struggling. Although the  doctor felt he wasn't a lot worse, his left eye was significantly weaker then his right. So he recommended that we start getting him use to glasses now. It can be harmful to their eyes if he really starts to favor one eye over the other and the glasses will help him use both eyes equally. So we order a pair and they final came in yesterday. Of course he was excited at first, but the excitement has warn off now and he has started asking not to wear them. I am not experienced with glasses but the doctor said it would probably take a week for him to get use to them. Now I just need to find a way to make sure he keeps them on. Hopefully some type of reward chart will do the trick.
