Take me out to the Ball Game

The Baseball season officially started this week. This year Nathan is a Marlin playing in the A division. In this division it is coach pitch and the coach has to pitch over hand from the pitchers mound. Pretty tough for the coaches I think. It really is entertaining to watch the kids who range from age 4 to almost 7. Today was Nathan's 2nd game and the team is finally started to figure out how to play as a team. They ended up winning 8-2 and had a great time, Go Marlins! Nathan was so excited when he hit the ball his second time at bat. He froze for a moment before he started running to 1st. He has never hit the ball during a game before and I don't think he quite knew what to do. But once he got running he made it all the way to 3rd base before the ball made it to the pitcher. His next teammate hit the ball and he was able to make into home plate. He was so excited and grinning ear to ear the rest of the game.

Here one of the coaches is telling him to keep running.

                                                 On his way to 2nd.

Made it to 3rd.
                                               Running to Home base!

A new year

We have had a pretty low key January. Last week I joined Nathan's class for a field trip to the Gallo Center for the Arts. They watched a children's play called Lilly's purple plastic purse. Nathan was so excited to be riding in a bus for the first time and seemed to like the play.

It has been foggy and cold most of the month but last week it was sunny and warm. The perfect weather to spend more time outdoors. This year I really want to try and get the boys outside more often. Dave felt the same, so he sold his project '56 Belair and then surprised the boys with a new playground for the backyard. They love it!

I actually managed to remember to sign Nathan up for little league. I have been wanting to sign him up since last year for baseball and soccer but always seemed to miss the sign up dates. Being new to the sports programs I never realized you actually had to sign them up 2-3 months before the season started. I kind of felt bad that Nathan never got a chance to play t-ball but he is very excited to play baseball. He asked dad to help him practice yesterday. So Dave spent some time teaching Nathan how to bat and then threw him some pitches.

New Years Fun

Since everyone had a few days off for the New year we decided to head up to the cabin for a couple days with part of Dave's family. Nathan has been begging for the past two years to play in the snow again but there hasn't been much snowfall over the past few years. It did snow some over the past few weeks so we were hoping to find some snow while we were up there to play in. We drove up Tuesday night can got everyone settled in for the night. The next morning after breakfast the kids were all anxious to get on their snow clothes to go outside and play. So we decided to go ahead and search for some snow. It was very cold out all week and there wasn't a lot of snow to play in, but we eventually found an area near the ski resort that had enough for the kids to sled on. The boys loved it even though it was more like frozen ice.

Even Grandma Griffith joined in on the fun.

That night we put the tired kids to bed and then waiting until midnight to welcome in the New Year. We ended up having a very rough night sleep(Brady was up from about 1 until 5), So after making some breakfast for everyone we packed up and headed home. Too much fun I guess for the boys.
